TRAINING
Reactive Dog Class
A 6-week group class specifically designed for dogs who struggle with reactivity - barking, lunging, or shutting down around other dogs or people. Dogs learn to stay calm and focused, which is a skill most adopters look for.
*Prerequisite = Private Behavior Consultation
Why it matters: Reactivity is one of the most common reasons dogs are returned after adoption. Training before placement improves adoption success.

Private Behavior Consultation
A one-on-one session with a certified trainer to assess and create a behavior modification plan for a specific foster animal - particularly valuable for animals with complex needs, fear, or a bite history.

Why it matters: A professional assessment unlocks targeted strategies that turn a struggling foster into a confident, placeable pet.

Obedience Class
A 6-week group class that focuses on manners and teaches basics like sit, down, come, heel, leave it, drop it, stay, wait, and more. Introduces clicker and verbal marking.
*Required prior to more advanced classes (Canine Good Citizen, Tricks, Agility, Scentwork)
Why it matters: Dogs who know even 3-5 basic cues are perceived as more manageable and are adopted faster.

Custom Safety Muzzle
A custom-fitted basket muzzle from BigSnoof, sized precisely for a foster dog who needs safe handling during public outings. Unlike other muzzles, BigSnoof muzzles allow panting, drinking, and treat-taking - making muzzle wearing a positive experience.

Long Line Training Lead (15-30 feet)
A quality biothane long line for practicing recall and building off-leash confidence in a safe, controlled way. Essential for training fosters with poor recall or no leash manners - and in Alaskan winter, safe to use even in icy conditions.
Why it matters: Solid recall is one of the top skills adopters request. A long line makes it possible to train it safely before a dog earns full off-leash freedom.

Indoor Dog Gym Rental
30 minutes of private rental time at a local indoor dog training facility - a fully enclosed, heated space where fosters can run, play, and decompress safely when outdoor temps are dangerously low. Crucial during Alaskan winters when -40F temps can last for weeks.
Why it matters: Exercise isn't optional for dogs. Pent-up energy leads to anxiety and behavioral issues. Indoor dog gym rental time keeps fosters calm, healthy, and happy.

Socialization Trip
A guided outing to a pet-friendly store - think PetSmart, a local feed store, or a pet boutique - to practice loose-leash walking, meeting strangers, ignoring distractions, and accepting treats from unfamiliar people. Low-key, but high-impact.
Why it matters: A dog who can walk calmly into a store is a dog an adopter can envision taking everywhere. It's a direct previous of adoptable life.

The rescues and shelters we work with cover the basics: food, litter, crates, and standard vet care. We never use donations to cover those. Everything here is above and beyond.
I track every expense in a public donations log, updated whenever funds are spent. If a donation doesn't get used for its intended purpose (say, a foster gets adopted before we can use it), we roll it forward to the next animal with similar needs.
